The belts in front of the engine include water pump and fan belts, generator belts, air conditioner compressor belts, and power steering oil pump belts. Belt slipping abnormal noise is a sharp, piercing "squeak" sound like a whistle, which often occurs when the engine is just started, when it is accelerating, or when the air conditioner is turned on.
The belt slippage may be caused by the belt tension being too small, or it may be caused by excessive wear or aging of the belt, which reduces the friction coefficient. In order to determine that the abnormal noise of the engine is belt slippage, you can sprinkle a little water on each belt after the engine is turned off, and then start the engine. If the abnormal noise decreases or disappears, it means that the abnormal noise just now is caused by the belt slipping.
When the engine has abnormal noise of belt slippage, check the tension of each belt first. The belt tension standards of different engines are not exactly the same. Generally, when the thumb is used to act perpendicularly to the middle of the belt between the two pulleys with a force of 50-IOON, the belt deflection should be about 10mm. If the tension is too small, it should be adjusted. If the belt still has abnormal noise after adjustment, it indicates that the belt is aging, and the belt should be replaced.
